A study published in ProQuest talks about managing diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) using low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic field (lf-pemf) after unsatisfactory pharmacological treatment.

The objective of this observational study was to evaluate the effectiveness of low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic fields (LF-PEMF) in managing symptoms associated with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN).

The study enrolled 70 patients both male & female in the ratio of 1:1 with DPN who had been diagnosed with diabetes for 0-5 years, had a hemoglobin AIc level between 7 and 12, and had been unsuccessfully treated with pharmacological therapy.

The study period was 60 days, with treatment sessions of 15 minutes each for 15 days, repeated after 30 days, using two sets of emitters of 20 and 6 MTL at a frequency of 10 Hz with Almag-02 manufactured by Elamed. Results were assessed at baseline and fortnightly follow-ups using DNS and MNSI scores.

In conclusion the study’s findings suggest that LF-PEMF effectively reduces symptoms associated with DPN. These results are promising for patients with DPN who have not responded to pharmacological therapy. LF-PEMF can be considered a non-invasive, safe, and effective alternative therapy for managing DPN symptoms.
